Meet Captain Jonathan Hirdes
Meet Your Expert Guide To Successful Louisiana Fishing Trip. Captain Jonathan Hirdes
Captain Jonathan Hirdes is a lifelong fisherman and native of Southeast Louisiana who has spent decades learning the rhythm of the marsh. Growing up surrounded by the bayous, Captain Jonathan developed an early love for the outdoors and a deep respect for the waterways that define this part of the state. That connection led him to turn his passion into a profession, founding 5 Eaux Fishing Charters to help others experience the unique beauty and productivity of these inshore waters.
His guiding philosophy is simple: create enjoyable, productive, and safe fishing trips tailored to each guest. Captain Jonathan brings a calm, knowledgeable presence to every outing and is especially skilled in helping new anglers feel comfortable while still offering valuable tips to seasoned fishermen. Whether casting for Redfish in skinny water or chasing schools of Speckled Trout in open bays, he brings experience, patience, and local insight to every charter.
Known for his expertise with both live bait and artificial lures, Captain Jonathan takes pride in refining the techniques that consistently lead to success. His time on the water has taught him how to read conditions, locate fish, and adapt to changing tides—all essential skills in the complex marsh systems of South Louisiana. With an easygoing attitude and a genuine desire to help others catch fish, he’s built a loyal following of guests who return year after year.
Fishing aboard the Avenger, a 22-foot bay boat built for inshore comfort and performance, adds another level of quality to each trip. Originally constructed in 1999 and fully restored in 2023, the vessel is powered by a dependable 150HP Mercury engine and can reach cruising speeds up to 34 knots. Designed to accommodate up to four anglers, the Avenger offers a smooth ride, ample fishing space, and the features needed for a full day of productive fishing across Southeast Louisiana’s marshes and bay systems.
